Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Last updated: 8/30/2023
In our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), let’s begin by ensuring everyone is on the same page. Here’s how MIT Sloan defines these terms:
- Diversity pertains to the degree to which the demographics of our community members are representative of those of the larger population.
- Equity pertains to the degree to which treatment of and resource allocation to members of our community is fair.
- Inclusion pertains to the extent to which members of our community, regardless of background, feel heard, respected, and engaged.
We believe when these three concepts work in harmony, a community of belonging and excellence is created.
The pillars mentioned in the MIT Values Statement (excellence and curiosity, openness and respect, belonging and community) are deeply important to the MIT Executive Degree Programs team. We’re committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for our entire community—students and their families, alumni, prospective students, faculty, staff, as well as those we interact with throughout the MIT and MIT Sloan ecosystems—while advancing a community that embraces diversity. Our team strives to empower everyone to learn and do their best at MIT.
We aim to enable leaders to achieve the extraordinary—regardless of background or affinity. Our goal is to foster an open and inclusive environment for our community by continuing to broaden our perspectives, keeping an open mind, questioning our processes, and educating ourselves around systemic inequalities and injustices.
In addition, we collaborate with The MIT Sloan Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their mission to create proactive, research-supported initiatives and programs that promote MIT’s Values in partnership with our community and other institutions and organizations. We agree with the Office of DEI that systemic problems require systemic solutions, and work together to make these changes in our programs and operations to better serve MIT Sloan, the greater Institute, and the world. We offer our community opportunities for growth through classroom content, guest speakers, and networking.
Our team tracks our initiatives in this space to monitor our progress and keep ourselves accountable. To measure our success, we actively collect feedback—both qualitative and quantitative—from our community around our efforts. We’re committed to the continued learning and development of our entire community so we can truly align with the mission of MIT Sloan: to develop principled, innovative leaders who improve the world.
